WITHIN a few weeks the Valentine’s Day will come. Many gift shops in malls are gearing up for the occasion with great fervour.
“Roses, balloons, cards, chocolates, ornamental gifts in special wrapped valentine covers are some of the items we have in store,” said Mai, a salesgirl at the Abu Dhabi Mall.
But what is more unique this year is that there is a choice to express ones affection differently.

According to Anu Agarwal, the founder of TheGreenEcostore.com, “Plantable seed paper is embedded with wildflower seeds. When you plant the paper in a pot of soil, the seeds will grow into colorful wildflowers. This year we expect people from the region to shop for superior eco-friendly gifts in a big way.”

The seed paper is increasingly being used for printing invitations, calendars, door knob message hangers, pillow boxes, envelopes, bottle neck tags, coasters, greeting cards and bookmarks etc.

Moreover, theGreenEcostore.com offers a range of eco-friendly gift products, including green gadgets and appliances, solar lights, recycled stationery items, reusable gift bags and shopping bags, recycled paper and stationery, eco-friendly toys, which also includes BPA-free water bottles, lunch boxes, soy candles, eco-friendly wallpaper, eco-stickers, solar-powered backpacks, bamboo kitchen ware, household cleaners and organic pet products.

“This is the first time in the modern history that a photography competition has been held for a religious place, which is the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. This is an unprecedented initiative, which will later open the door for the launch of other contests of this kind in the rest of the countries,” said Dr Jasim Al Awadhi, the head of the judging panel.

The “Spaces of Light” competition, launched on Oct.17 last year, had attracted a large number of audiences interested to learn about the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque as an essential tourist attraction in the United Arab Emirates and as a prominent religious edifice of a religious and moral value. The competition has also fostered the role of the mosque as a place for interaction and sponsorship of meaningful cultural and scientific activities,” he added.

THE judging panel of the “Spaces of Light” photography contest held its last meeting recently with the aim of celebrating the cultural and visual beauty scene in the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.

During the meeting, nine winners in the three categories of the contest “The Close-up”, “The Mosque and the People” and “The Panoramic Photo” were chosen from amongst 4,000 participating photos from around 50 countries around the world.
